The 18th WFHSS World Sterilization Congress took place from 4 to 7 October 2017 at the World Conference Center Bonn in Germany. I attended the congress as a participant and followed scientific sessions on sterilization, medical device reprocessing, staff education, and the development of professional standards.
The congress provided a valuable opportunity to exchange experience with specialists and leaders of sterilization societies from different countries. One of the photographs shows me with Professor Duygu Perçin, a microbiologist and member of the congress scientific committee.
Another photograph shows me with Paul, my Dutch friend from Etigam, a Netherlands-based specialist in chemical and biological sterilization indicators. Paul has also passed away, and I remember his friendship and professional companionship with respect.
Anke Carter, then Vice President of the German Society for Sterile Supply, DGSV, and a member of the scientific and organizing committees, also appears in one of the photographs. She passed away on 24 January 2022. Her lasting contribution to education and the advancement of medical device reprocessing is remembered with respect.
Participation in this congress strengthened my international professional connections and became part of my continuing work in sterilization education and knowledge development.
