The 21st WFHSS World Sterilization Congress took place from 17 to 20 November 2021 at the Geneva International Conference Centre in Switzerland. It was the first in-person WFHSS congress following the global restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
I attended as President of JAM Sterilization Research Institute and Iran’s representative in the World Federation for Hospital Sterilisation Sciences. JAM is a full member of WFHSS, and both the institute and its president are listed in the federation’s official international membership directory.
The purpose of this participation was to contribute to WFHSS international activities, follow the latest scientific developments, and strengthen relationships with sterilization associations, researchers, and professionals from different countries.
The scientific programme covered sterilization process monitoring, chemical and biological indicators, medical device reprocessing, quality management in sterile services departments, and patient safety.
Holding the congress after the COVID-19 restrictions highlighted the essential role of sterile services departments and sterilization professionals in infection prevention and patient protection.
This participation provided a valuable opportunity to present Iran’s scientific capacity, exchange international experience, and strengthen the educational and research activities of JAM Sterilization Research Institute.
